IBM has officially launched its first Quantum Data Center in Europe in Ehningen, Germany. This facility, the company’s second quantum data center globally, features two utility-scale systems based on the IBM Quantum Eagle architecture and is set to include the advanced IBM Quantum Heron system. This expansion is pivotal in enhancing access to advanced quantum computing capabilities for over 250 enterprises, universities, and research institutions within IBM’s global quantum network. The new data center aims to support a variety of industries in tackling complex computational challenges that exceed the capabilities of classical computers.

The opening was celebrated with remarks from notable attendees, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and IBM leaders. Scholz emphasized the center’s potential to foster innovation and business growth in Germany, while Ana Paula Assis, General Manager of IBM Europe, highlighted its role in strengthening collaboration across industry and academia. With its commitment to delivering cutting-edge quantum technology, IBM aims to bolster Europe’s position in the global quantum ecosystem, facilitating advancements in critical sectors such as materials science, energy, and healthcare.
